Microchipping

We offer pet microchipping at our office. A pet microchip is a small (grain of rice sized) electronic device that can be implanted under the skin between the shoulder blades of a dog or cat. The implantation process is similar to giving a vaccine, but with a larger gauge needle. It is a relatively quick procedure and most dogs and cats do not react. Each microchip has a unique identification number that is registered with the manufacturer. Once a microchip is implanted, an account is created on the manufacturer’s website with the owner and pet’s information. If your pet were ever lost or stolen, and an animal shelter, animal control officer or veterinarian scanned for a microchip, your pet could be traced back to you.
